The Future of Home Care is Cooperative
In the ever-evolving landscape of home care, one model stands out as a beacon of innovation and empowerment: the cooperative. As we look toward 2025, the National Home Care Cooperative Conference is set to showcase the transformative power of worker-owned cooperatives in the care industry.
Scheduled for March 11-14 and hosted at the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC) in Dulles, Virginia, this event is more than a gathering—it’s a movement to elevate the home care industry, empowering care workers and delivering unparalleled client care.
What to Expect at the Conference
The 2025 Home Care Cooperative Conference will bring together a diverse group of care workers, cooperative leaders, and advocates to:
- Tackle Workforce Challenges: Explore sustainable solutions for recruitment, retention, and job satisfaction in home care.
- Innovate Business Models: Learn from successful cooperatives leading the way in care and governance.
- Elevate Care Quality: Share best practices for balancing worker empowerment with exceptional client service.
- Network and Collaborate: Build connections with thought leaders and peers dedicated to transforming home care.
Why Cooperatives Matter in Home Care
Worker-owned cooperatives are reshaping the future of home care. By prioritizing worker empowerment and shared decision-making, these models address critical industry challenges such as high turnover, low wages, and worker burnout. They also offer clients higher quality care through dedicated and motivated caregivers.
Elevate Cooperative, a new national secondary cooperative for the home care cooperative sector, being incubated by The ICA Group, is advancing this pioneering movement. By supporting the development and growth of home care cooperatives nationally, we aim to build a network of thriving worker-owned home care businesses that uplift and empower care workers and the individuals and communities they serve.
Spotlight on Key Sessions and Speakers
The conference will feature dynamic speakers and sessions, including:
- Policy Implications of a New Administration and Congress: Opportunities and Challenges in the Year of Cooperatives: The Federal Government is shifting quickly. What are the implications of a new federal policy landscape on homecare and cooperatives? What potential opportunities or challenges lie ahead? In the Year of Cooperatives let’s highlight ongoing efforts to support Co-ops, Employee Ownership, and homecare at the federal level and how we are poised to address the economic challenges that many Americans see as the #1 issue facing the country.
- Partner Power: Leveraging your network for growth: Referral partnerships are the number one source of clients for home care businesses. But how do you go about building them and with who? Cooperators from across the country share their unique stories of developing partnerships in their communities to attract clients and caregivers.
- But who’s going to pay for it?: In this session attendees will learn about the different payers in home care–Private Pay, Medicaid, Veterans Affairs, Long Term Care Insurance, State and County Aging Departments– and will hear from cooperative leaders about their lived experiences breaking into these payer markets and the opportunities & challenges of serving them.
Stay tuned for the full agenda, which promises to inspire, inform, and equip attendees with actionable strategies for success.
